The flagship of the Empress Class, the ship itself is a little smaller and a little older than some of the fleet. Following a 2016 renovation and a new set of itineraries for 2020, including Montreal and Rhode Island in the north, all the way down to some of the smaller ports larger classes of ship can't quite reach.

The Empress was retired from Royal Caribbean's fleet in 2021 after more than 30 years of service. She sailed a few firsts, introducing 3 and 4-night itineraries to Royal Caribbean fans and was the first cruise ship to sail from Cape Liberty. The Empress was also Royal's first ship to visit Cuba in 2017.
