Royal Caribbean and Carnival Corporation, which together represent some 75% of the island nation's cruise passenger capacity, have just this week delivered their signatures to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the government of Saint Lucia.
Earlier in 2019 local authorities had decided it was time to improve the island's capabilities in receiving some of the larger, more modern ships by either facilitating an upgrade or building an entirely new port.
I'm happy to share the news that a second port has been thwarted in favour of development to the existing structures, meaning more preservation of that beautiful island space which draws honeymooners and those vacation-goers who'd seek something a little more special from across Canada and the United States.
Rumours of a new home-port for a fantastic new vessel already abound, while the nearby Hewanorra International Airport sees enhancements of its own during a current $175 million upgrade.
