An exciting phenomena for any cruise traveller to experience, glacier calving or just "calving" is a natural process by which a small (or sometimes large) section of ice separates from a glacier and splashes down into the seas below.
It is often part of an annual freezing and thawing cycle and can result in a noisy, wavy spectacle for those lucky enough to see it!
