Near the port town of Sami, Antisamos is features a large pebble beach with azure waves which resemble the scenery around the bay, which includes green hills and mountains covered in oak and cypress. The water meets the equally green southern portion of Ithaca on the opposite side - the two islands are so close that it's difficult to tell them apart!
Antisamos was the site for some of the most crucial and impressive moments in the Hollywood film "Captain Corelli's Mandolin", which was shot in Kefalonia in the summer of 2000 and shown the following year in cinemas all over the world. The entire area of Sami was transformed into a massive set for transporting the actors to Kefalonia in 1943, the scene for the film. Perfect for movie buffs or anyone with an appreciation for beautiful beaches.
