One of the two small sand beaches in John Pennekamp State Park, the beach is so named because of the cannons retrieved just below the surface. Historic shipwrecks have led to the discovery of a number of artifacts, you might see some for yourself just off the sand.
If your visit to the Keys is limited to Key Largo or you've only got a short period of time to enjoy yourself, satisfy that craving for sand with a little trip to Cannon Beach.
Planning your trip
If you have snorkel gear, even just a mask or a pair of swim goggles, make sure you bring them. There are relics to be seen not far off the sandy shores.

The beach is located within the bounds of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, meaning your timings to visit will be dependent on the capacity of the park on a given day. You'll find most visitors are either staying at the park in an RV or utilizing a full-day guest pass.
