A small village of Santorini, located at the clifftop over the old port of Santorini. While the old port is still in use for both inter-island ferries and local industry, it has since been replaced by the port and funicular cable car at Thera. This can mean smaller crowds in this little village.
There are a number of wineries nearby, allowing guests to enjoy a stroll in the town during the afternoon prior to enjoying a cliff's edge view over the caldera while enjoying a glass of local wine at sunset!
Planning your trip
The village's entry point from the main road is quite near to the Venetsanos Winery, they offer a highly recommended sunset wine tasting experience.
When you should go
Megalochori is a bit sleepier than the larger villages of Santorini. Don't expect too many crowds, even during the busier summer months.
