Although larger than some of its counterparts, Mykonos or Santorini, the island of Milos doesn't feature as heavily on the tourist radar and enjoys lighter crowds, even in the high season. Although that is tempered by a somewhat limited variety of activities for visitors to enjoy which don't involve the beach. That's not a bad problem to have!

Milos is a great choice for beach enthusiasts and couples who'd like a bit of a quieter island experience in Greece. There are a few villages and local historical sites to visit, but the real attractions are on the water's edge.

Planning your trip

Definitely explore some of the unique beaches found on the island, but if you're looking for a bit of history, there are ruins and even catacombs under the hilltop village of Trypiti.

When you should go

Explore Milos as part of your cruise itinerary to get a little taste of what the island's all about, but you can dive right in and enjoy during roughly the same period as other Greek Island hot spots. You'll encounter more fellow visitors during the hot summer months of late June through August, with May to October welcoming most guests to Milos.

What else you might need

If you've arrived by air via Athens or as part of your cruise of the Greek Islands, you will have cleared customs by the time you arrive in Milos. Expect your Schengen visa duration to accumulate while you're here.
