Souvenir shops and the historic center of second hand goods in Central Athens. Monastiraki Square's retailer neighbor is a great place to spend time looking for tourist souvenirs or to spend 20 minutes in the shade on the way to something more ancient.

Those who want to haggle for a T-shirt or seeking something interesting to look at while enjoying a bit of shade. There are some "previously loved" items to be found in the quieter, parallel streets but it's entirely possible that the flea market becomes derelict to locals over the next few years. Be aware of pickpockets and tourist scams here and in the neighboring Monastiraki Square.

Planning your trip

There are two areas marked on most maps as "Markets" in the areas of central Athens. If you're looking for the Food Hall, this isn't it. There's no butchery or seafood on ice to be found at the flea market.

When you should go

Sunday mornings will deliver the most authentic flea market experience. Otherwise you'll appreciate the shade most and during the heat of the day. There are more memorable sights of Athens for most visitors.

What else you might need

You won't need any sort of ticket or admission to explore the market stalls and spaces.
