While there are no "ugly" villages of Santorini, Oia (sometimes pronounced, "ee-a") provides some of the most breathtaking views. Blue-domed churches, crisp white plastering, winding stairways and paths, and the occasional sprig of green or bright flowers, it all really brings together a fantasy landscape and the photographer's dream destination!
Oia is a must-see for visitors to Santorini. Picture postcard perfect and with a great mix of local art galleries among more touristy offerings. You'll have the best summertime sunset views, even if you have to save yourself a spot to view them, it's a popular spot!
Planning your trip
Oia's picturesque viewpoints can be busy, consider reserving a table with a sunset sea view to enjoy the spectacle without worrying about your personal space among the tiny alleyways of the village.
When you should go
Oia is very popular throughout the Greek Island season, with peaks between June and early-September. If you're only visiting for the day as part of your cruise, head to the lookout spots you'd like to enjoy as early in the day as possible for the most private experience.
