Unlike many of the other islands of the Galapagos, Rabida hosts red rock and soil. It is a small island, historically featuring few predators and which is heavily forested by cactus. With so few predators, some of the cactus has even developed without spines.
Rabida is a great choice for those who enjoy snorkeling or even hiking, but it also features an opportunity to view nesting pelicans. You might even catch glimpse of flamingos as there's a local population on the island's bay. If you're really into birding, hawks, boobies, and nine of Darwin's finches may be observed here.
Planning your trip
A small island wedged among several popular island destinations of the Galapagos, many cruise itineraries forgo this destination for Bartolome, Pinzon, or even Isabela Island. So, if you're cruising the Galapagos but interested in some of the bird life of Rabida, you should choose your itinerary wisely.
When you should go
The island is unpopulated but popular with bird watchers and snorkeling trips to the quiet bay. You might have the most opportunity to be on your own during the December through March period.
What else you might need
In addition to your visa to Ecuador, you'll need a permit to visit the Galapagos. This permit should cover any visit you make to Rabida.
