Also known as Waiānuenue, the falls are relatively accessible from the city area of Hilo and may be paired with other local landmarks when you're heading out of the city during your visit.
The falls don't represent a particularly high platform from which the water flows at only ~25m (80'). There is a short hiking trail nearby and limited parking.
Planning your trip
If you're calling to port in Hilo, the falls are likely a bit further than you'd want to walk during the short time you'll have ashore. Plan your transportation well.
Pair your visit with the Kaumana Lava Caves or as part of a visit to Hilo or even as part of a longer road trip up to Papaikou and the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden.
When you should go
You'll have the best opportunity of viewing an actual rainbow in the column of water if you arrive earlier in the day.
What else you might need
Part of the Hawaii State Parks, however there is no fee to view the falls. You may have to plan for parking or general transportation.
